Laser Treatment for "gummy" smiles
A "Gum Lift" is a cosmetic dental procedure that raises and sculpts the gum line. This procedure involves reshaping the tissue to create the appearance of longer and symmetrical teeth, making the smile more aesthetically pleasing. Gum lifts are typically done to reduce excessively gummy smiles or to balance out an asymmetrical gum line. Using Waterlase® technology, Dr. Zelig performs a virtually pain-free gum lifting procedure with an exceptionally short healing period.

Laser Treatment for Gum Recession
Receding gums refer to a loss of gum tissue resulting in an exposure of the roots of the teeth. Gum recession is a common problem in adults over the age of 30 but may also occur in some teens. Gum recession can cause tooth sensitivity, impair dental aesthetics, and, in rare cases, even lead to tooth loss. Our Waterlase technology allows Dr. Zelig to perform gum grafting procedures in minutes with virtually no bleeding of the operated site. And in most cases, it is not necessary to take painful gum grafts from other parts of the mouth, like the palate. Precise Waterlase energy sterilizes the area, dramatically reducing postoperative discomfort and promoting faster healing.

Laser Treatment for Periodontal Diseases
|
Periodontal (gum) diseases, including gingivitis and periodontitis, are serious infections that, left untreated, can lead to tooth loss.
Treatment of gum disease is aimed at cleaning the debris and toxins from beneath the gum-line. This is accomplished virtually painlessly and comfortably using the latest and most conservative approach that suits your particular stage of disease. All phases of treatment is provided by our board-certified periodontist, Dr. Zelig, using Laser technology.
When lasers are used during periodontal therapy, there can be less bleeding, swelling and discomfort to the patient. Scalpels and stitches are often not necessary resulting in quick and comfortable healing.
Treatment Procedure:
- Laser light removes bacteria and diseased tissue from the pocket
- Ultrasonic scalers and laser energy are used to remove tarter and debris from the root surface
- The Laser prepares the root surface to enable healthy gum attachment and aids in sealing the pocket closed
Laser therapy can be more effective in addressing the infectious nature of periodontal disease than traditional methods. The laser can physically interact with the bacteria and kill the organism by the absorption of laser energy. Studies have shown the laser’s ability to reduce 99.4% of the bacteria in a periodontal lesion. In addition, the laser can assist in forming a fibrin clot eliminating post-surgical bleeding and providing a quick and comfortable healing.
